We are reaching out to you today as members of a work community that have all been touched by Cancer in some way. Three years ago we made a commitment to support a local orthopedic surgeon and Cancer researcher named Dr. Damron. Today he is asking for our help in raising funds for a necessary tool to further his cancer research. We are asking you to help us raise the money to further his research but also to show Dr. Damron that his research matters and that we are committed to keeping him in Syracuse and continuing his work.
Dr. Damron practices in the Syracuse area and continues to advance his research in cancer treatment. Radiotherapy or Radiation therapy is a necessary component of treatment for many cancer patients, including those with pediatric cancers such as lymphoma, bone, and soft tissue sarcomas. Despite the advances in radiation therapy techniques, post-radiation fractures have been reported with frequency in numerous types of cancers. He is currently working on the prevention and treatment of post treatment fractures with an Ultrahigh Pressure Liquid Chromatography. His research will have a huge ripple effect in the treatment of all forms of bone and soft tissue cancers.
Dan and I knew we made the right choice three years ago to support Dr. Damron when he spoke at an event we were at with a fifth grader that was alive because of his treatment. Surprisingly the young man was a student at our local Weedsport Central School. Sometimes having faith and believing you are doing the right thing is confirmed in the most obvious ways. Several months ago Dr. Damron approached us and asked for our help in raising money to buy a specialized piece of equipment to further his research. When we asked, he stated, there is no other way for him to move forward.
With your help and ours we can truly make a difference and help Dr. Damron in his efforts. Whether you donate $5.00 or $500.00, every dollar will go directly to his fund as overseen by the Upstate Foundation and earmarked for the purchase of this equipment. This money is fully tax deductible and the Upstate Foundation will provide you with necessary documentation. Most importantly this money is our opportunity to directly fund cancer research in our community of employees, drivers and customers. To make a statement that we have the ability to support breakthroughs and that putting our hard earned money towards buying this equipment is worthwhile and will pay itself back in the future.
